Patched large hole with mesh/aluminum patch. Want to mount rack in same area.?
I recently patched 2 large holes (roughly 4" each ) in my bathroom wall where an old ceramic towel rack was mounted. I used one of the large patches that has mesh and an aluminum (at least I think it's aluminum) plate to cover the hole and then of course covered with patching compound.
I would like to place my new towel rack in the same place that the patches currently reside. Do I need to do anything special with regards to drilling through the aluminum plate?
Do I need:
- special drill bits?
- certain type of screws to mount the new towel rack through the aluminum plate?
Any help on the above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I would not put the towel rack in the same place thinking that the patch is not going to be strong enough to hold the rack to the wall after towels add weight. Move it a little higher or lower, maybe more to the right or left of the patch. The sheet rock is an 1/2 inch thick and the patch is approx. 1/6 of an inch thick or less and only attached to the wall with sheet rock compound. I would move it and use the fasteners provided by the manufacturer.
