Looking at distribution blocks that have 1/0 input and 4awg output, can I use 2AWG for the input?

If a distribution block says that it has 1/0ga input with two 4ga outputs, can I use a 2ga input with two 4ga outputs? I will be installing a Jl 500/1 for now and will install another amp later down the road. If I use a distribution block, is it ok that I only have only one 4ga output with from a larger gauge input?

yes, you can use 2 gauge wire, and i understand what you're wanting to do, because 1/0 is so darn expensive ($4 a foot for the good stuff) and 2 gauge is all you really need for that amp, actually, 2 awg is a little overkill, but you're still in good shape.

as for the distro block, you're fine, it will accept 2 awg just as nice as it will 1/0. that just tells you that the particular distro block you're looking at will accept the big stuff.

and as for your second question, yes it's okay to run only one output for now, it's no big deal, just make sure you leave the fuse out of the second output until you're ready to use it.

How my aFe Cold Air Intake handled a Cross-Country Road Trip

ou're only young once, so when opportunity knocks, you'd better be ready to go. And, that's how a weekend trip with a couple of buddies that started out as a run from L.A. to Vegas ended up as a rite of passage that landed us in the heart of Times Square. Tossing caution to the wind (and the roadmaps as well), we navigated our way cross-country by way of famous landmarks, historical sites and more than one McDonalds.

And we did it all in a black '73 Dodge Challenger with an amped-up 440 block. But that wasn't the only upgrade. It also had a streamlined exhaust system and an aFe cold air intake to further maximize output.

Stock intake systems are designed to eliminate engine noise and, in doing so, often greatly restrict airflow and overall performance. But that's where an aftermarket cold air intake system comes in. The principle is pretty simple: the more air your engine receives, the higher the output. With an aFe cold air intake under the hood, you'll receive an instant boost in horsepower up to 50hp, with the addition of up to 40 ft-lbs of torque. These combine to produce an overall efficiency within your internal combustion engine by drawing in cool air and providing an increase in the amount of oxygen used for combustion with fuel.

An aftermarket aFe air intake system completely replaces the stock components currently in your vehicle and provides a smoother pathway for air to enter the engine, creating the greatest improvement to overall horsepower and torque of any performance upgrade. They also come with a powder-coated steel heat shield to keep the airflow cool.

The more efficient fuel economy – between 1 - 2 miles per gallon – saved us a ton on gas, especially when we got out onto the interstate. Plus, it gave our Dodge a throatier rumble at higher RPMs. The thing sounded like a beast as it echoed off the walls of the Grand Canyon.

What can I use to store unused laptop hard drives?

I have a few extra laptop hard drives (2.5 in) from upgrades and from other laptops. I was wondering if there was any organized "rack" I could put these into to sit nicely on my desk. It would be ideal to have them hooked to some SATA system that I could just plug into my computer and basically use them as external hard drives. I have one of those external USB SATA enclosures to access them one at a time, but I was wondering if there is anything on the market close to what I would like. Any info would be great.

Pipe strips about 2 to 3 inches long and as thick as a pencil onto the baking sheets, leaving enough space for the cookies to expand while baking. Bake in a preheated 425 degrees oven for 6 to 8 minutes. Remove and cool on a rack. Store in an airtight container.

Mexican Arepas

1/2 (125 ml) water
Peel of 1 orange
6 ounces (180m g) grated piloncillo or 1 cup dark brown sugar (250 ml) firmly packed
2 ounces (60g) vegetable shortening, 1/3 cup (83 ml)
Scant 4 ounces (115 g) pork lard, scant 1/2 cup
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon lime salt
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 eggs lightly beaten
1-1/2 pounds (675 grams) all-purpose flour, about 5 1/2 cups

The Glaze:
1 egg yolk
1 tablespoon milk
1/3 cup (83ml) granulated sugar

METHOD

Put the water into a saucepan with the orange peel and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until the sugar has completely melted. Continue boiling until the mixture starts to thicken and forms a thick thread when dropped from a spoon. Stir in the fats and set aside to cool a little. Don't worry if the sugar stiffens; it will dissolve when beaten with the other ingredients.

When cool, add the baking powder and soda, salt, lime juice, and eggs with 1 tablespoon of the flour. Beat well, then stir in - do not beat in- the flour and work the dough with your hands to a stiff cohesive mass. Add a little water if necessary to obtain this texture.

Have ready 2 ungreased baking sheets. Heat he oven to 350° F (177°C).

Flatten the dough onto a lightly floured board to just over 1/4 inch (7mm) thick. Cut out the cookies with a star or flower-shaped cutter about 3 inches (8cm) across and set about 1-inch (2.5 cm) apart (they do not spread much) on the cookie sheets. Beat the egg yolk and milk together and brush over the top of the arepas. Sprinkle with the granulated sugar and bake until crisp and lightly browned - 25 to 35 minutes. Cool on a rack. Arepas keep very well in an airtight container.

Yield: About 16 three inch (8 cm) cookies

13 servings 1¼ hours 45 min prep

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar, plus
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 1/4 cups vegetable shortening, plus
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
2 eggs
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
granulated sugar, for rolling

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Blend well.
Cover dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Scoop about two tablespoons of dough, roll into a large ball, then roll in granulated sugar.
Place ball of dough onto a baking sheet.
Flatten ball with the palm of your hand to about 1/4-inch thick.
Sprinkle a little extra sugar on top.
Repeat process with the rest of the dough, placing them 2-inches apart once flattened.
Bake for 15-20 minutes.
Make sure you not over bake!
Remove cookies from oven and leave on cookie sheet for 5 minutes, before transfering to a wire rack to cool completely.

Mexican Coffee Liqueur Cookies

1/2 c butter
2 c white flour
1/2 c cream
1 t baking soda
2/3 c maple syrup
1/2 c oats
1/2 c Kahlua
1/2 c nuts
1 t vanilla
1 1/2 c mint chocolate chips
1 ea egg
Cream together butter, cream, maple syrup, coffee liqueur and vanilla.

Stir in egg. Add flour in three additions, making sure each addition is thoroughly mixed. Add baking soda and oats.

Stir in nuts and mint chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls on an unoiled cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees 10-12 minutes. Cookies should be golden brown.
