Help with mounting a flat screen on a stand?
I am getting a Sony Bravia KDL-40V4100 series 40" LCD HDTV. It may be the end of the week before I actually receive it.
We don't want to mount it on the wall (we have paneling and plaster behind that, in our living room - that gets messy). So today I purchased a tv stand that basically has two glass shelves on the front of it, and on the back of the stand, a steel support goes up and there is a swivel mount for the tv. There are the typical mount bars (one on top, one on bottom) on the rectangular mount on the stand.
The question: Will my tv come with the brackets necessary to mount this tv, or do I have to purchase them separately? Are they all universal in the way that they mount? I can't find the stand online anywhere that I purchased today. I'm planning on putting it together and just waiting on the tv to see what other hardware I will need. Any suggestions?
No, the Sony KDL-40V4100 HDTV does not come with any brackets. The mounting brackets needed to mount your TV should be supplied with the TV stand you have purchased. Every TV mount is unique, therefore, the brackets must be supplied with your stand. Every stand that I have assembled includes the brackets and a bolt kit to attach to the mounting holes of the TV. If your stand does not include the brackets, then return the stand and request a stand with the brackets.

Help - how to weld metal bars into shelves?
next few weeks at work i'm planning on turning a bunch of steel and aluminum bars (from the scrap heap) into different sized metal shelves using a TIG welder. i haven't used the welder in awhile but i planned to be supervised by an expert. So my question is really asking for tips/pointers into putting a metal shelf together.
I understand that steel and aluminum will not combine.
The shelves will be used to hold computers and monitors and other necessary equipment for a combustion experiment.
Is there a systematic process (for a shelf specifically) into assembling the bars? How will i be able to clamp it down if the bars are going to be different widths and at right angles? Once the frame is built, there may be an option to weld metal boards, how can that be done? When will a tack weld be more useful than a line weld?
This is the first time that I will be making metal shelves, so any extra tips beyond the questions posted will benefit me greatly.
I hate to bring problems up for you, but you can't weld aluminum to steel or vice versa. The two metals will not mix.
Also to weld aluminum your tig welder must have high freqincy on it also. Mosy welders don't.
If you are going to use sheet steel for the shelves and want to use the aluminum bars as the post, there is a way you can do so, however it will require buying some steel pipe with the inside diameter a hair larger than the aluminum bars.
drill a series of small holes 1" apart down one side of the pipe and then cut into small nipples between the holes. leave about 3/4" on one side of the hole and 1/4" on the other. Tig the pipe to the plate metal with the 3/4" toward the plate where you want the post to go on top and bottom of the bottom shelves,( if you want some short legs on the bottom of the rack) on bottom of the top shelves and on top and bottom of all the shelves in between.
Cut the bars to fit and then use self tapping screws to attach them as you put them together.
All it will only take is a small tack weld on both sides of the pipe. Maybe a 10% to 15% weld. There isn't any sense using up a lot of argone gas, welding rods and time welding them 100%.
It is also a question of how heavy the sheet steel is, how far between the uprights, and what will be put on them as to whether you will need bracing such as angle iron under the front and rear lip of the shelves. The heaver the load, the bigger the angle needs to be but 3/4" x 3/4" should be enough even if you have something as thin as 20 gauge sheet for the shelves.
If you are useing something like 1/4" plate for the shelves, you shouldn't even nee the angle at all unless you want the post spread a part a long ways.

I did find out from someone that read your question that you don't have to have Hi Fre. if you use helium gas instead if argon gas. First time I ever heard of it after 35 years of welding but the guy seemed like he was correct. Learn some new trying to answer someone elses question. Oh well. lol

Toolbox question?
Anyone have a Craftsman quiet glide toolbox? Do the drawers slide nice? Is ball bearing a lot better? I want to get my boyfriend a nice craftsman tool box for christmas. Is there any other brands that are good? Looking for a rolling toolbox under $500.
I have a Husky brand that I bought at home depot for well under $500. It is not a professional grade but is adequate for home use. The ball bearing drawers will carry more weight which can be important for a person that has lots of tools. I would watch the sales at sears. Craftsman at least used to make a good tool box. I saw one at Costco, stainless steel with bearing drawers but it was a bit over $500. But it is a beauty.

Vertical Metal Plant Hanging Systems?
I'm trying to find other ways of keeping my plants away from my cats. Most are on hooks mounted to the ceiling. I remembered that I came across a great alternative from Ikea. It was a metal extension post with pots at were adjustable. I tried to find back issues, key words and found nothing. HARLEY SUPER GLIDE CUSTOM EXHAuST?
I just bought and picked up my 2009 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom in blue pearl. Now after about 500 miles i'm going to change the stock pipe. I'm considering the V&H Big Radius 2 to 2 pipes. There going to run me about $650 but I like the slick style and the sharp ends. Right now i'm content witht the power, but i want to crank up the volume and get that mean badass harley sound. With a Screamin Eagle heavy breather, and some V&H Big Radius 2 to 2 pipes will the bike be rumbling.... I also plan to put 12.5" mini apes on the bike which i'll probablu do before anything but Right now those 3 things are as far as my budget goes. I know you can buy fuel packs etc but I'm limited to what I can spend. So with a Screamin Eagle heavy breather, V&H Big radius, and some mini apes will that fit well on the bike? Any suggestions? Mabe forget the heavy breather and add a fuel pack or something like that, IDk help me out....
Generally the V&H B/R pipes are better on bikes that need to breathe with monster cams, and larger displacement upgrades: 119 ci and above. (seems unnecessarily expensive just to get the same sound as slip ons)
I put on a set of Screamin Eagle slip-ons at the same time as a stage 1 download, a S/E breather and set of Andrews #26 gear drive cams. Mine runs like a strpied azz ape Yeah, man... Do what you please; Its your bike and you're the only on that has to be happy. Changing the bars is cool, but the other guy is right... it involves adapted cables and brake hose....you gotta really want to change the bars to go through all that.
